Het kan heel handig zijn om alle lampen in je huis of in een kamer automatisch te laten inschakelen. Uiteraard kun je een vast tijdstip voor inschakeling bepalen voor een apparaat of groep maar het kan wenselijk zijn dit tijdstip te laten aanpassen aan het seizoen. Bijvoorbeeld op basis van het dagelijks wisselende tijdstip van zonsondergang. In onderstaand voorbeeld laten wij zien hoe je dit kan instellen. Wij nemen als doel dat de groep lampen met de naam Desk, automatisch inschakelen, 30 minuten voor zonsondergang. Belangrijk is dat er in de Hihome App een locatie is ingesteld aangezien de locatie bepalend is voor het automatisch bepalen van het tijdstip van zonsondergang, per dag. De afbeeldingen in dit voorbeeld zijn screenshots in de Nederlandse taal. Wanneer je een andere taal hebt ingesteld zal het qua taal anders zijn, maar visueel gelijkwaardig. 1. Kies in het hoofdscherm voor Scene  2. Kies > Scene maken/of druk + 3. In dit voorbeeld willen we inschakelen op basis van tijdstip van zonsondergang, dus kiezen we voor de categorie Weersverandering. 4. Vervolgens selecteer je Zonsopkomst/-ondergang. 5. Selecteer Zonsondergang > Kies 30 minuten voor zonsondergang om dit voorbeeld te volgen. De lamp gaat in dit voorbeeld Aan, 30 minuten voor zonsondergang. Uiteraard kun je kiezen wat je wil. Let op, kies je locatie. Je locatie is bepalend voor het schema van zonsondergang. 6. Nu is de trigger van de automatisering gemaakt. Kies vervolgens wat er moet gebeuren door op de + de klikken bij Dan. 7. In dit voorbeeld willen we een lamp laten inschakelen > Voer het apparaat uit  8. Kies de betreffende lamp, of groep, en kies ON. 9. Zie nu het overzicht van de opdracht die je hebt aangemaakt. Kies opslaan als je tevreden bent. 10. Bevestig je keuze en start het gebruik.   Klaar!

Time switches, timers, time switches or whatever they are called, we have known about them for many years. The really old models were electromechanical. A small motor caused the clock to rotate. This also gave a typical soft and humming sound. Setting the clock was quite a hassle because small pins had to be inserted at the desired switching times. Another disadvantage was that when the power was cut, the timer stopped and thus disrupted the programme. Later came the digital versions. Often equipped with a mini LCD display to see what the settings are. Most of the time, without a magnifying glass, it was impossible to see what was being set and repeatedly pressing mini buttons was also inconvenient. Fortunately, we now live in the IoT era. Thanks to affordable Wi-Fi modules and cloud technology, it is possible to create smart plugs, also called Smart Plugs. These usually work via the existing Wi-Fi network but alternative protocols such as Zigbee are also available. One of the biggest advantages of Smart Plugs is to avoid the inconvenience of old-fashioned time switches, as described above. You operate and program a Smart Plug via an App on your smartphone. You can also combine several Smart Plugs in a group so that you can program and operate everything at once. So get rid of those old timey clocks and make your life easy. The better versions of smart plugs also make it possible to measure your energy consumption. Very instructive and helpful in saving on energy costs. An additional advantage is that you can create smart scenarios based on power consumption. For example, switching off the charger of your E-Bike. (See article with programming example). Create a time schedule in which lamps are turned on when it gets dark and off again when it is time for bed. This includes outdoor lights, bathrooms and bedrooms. Replace any 'dumb' lights with Smart ones and programme in switch-on and switch-off times. Make a group of several lamps so that you do not have to do the settings for each lamp separately.
